Safety & Refund Policy
Oko Designs Stained Glass Studio
Effective Date: 12/12/2023

  1. Purpose
This Safety & Refund Policy (“Policy”) sets forth the mandatory safety requirements, health advisories, and refund limitations applicable to all classes, workshops, and events conducted by Oko Designs (“Company”), located at 420 Sutter Street, San Francisco, California, and at any offsite venue under its operation. This Policy is incorporated by reference into the Company’s Terms of Service and Participant Liability Waiver and shall apply to all Participants.

  2. Mandatory Safety Rules
    a. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Participants shall wear closed-toe shoes, safety goggles, and protective gloves at all times while handling glass, solder, lead, or chemicals. Long hair must be secured. Loose clothing and jewelry are prohibited near machinery or soldering areas.
    b. Studio Conduct: Eating, drinking, vaping, or smoking within work areas is strictly forbidden. Only tools provided or approved by the instructor may be used. Participants must immediately report any injury, spill, or equipment malfunction.
    c. Lead and Chemical Exposure: The Studio uses solder, lead came, flux, patina, and other compounds containing substances known to the State of California to cause cancer, birth defects, or other reproductive harm (California Health & Safety Code §25249.6). All Participants must wash hands thoroughly after contact with any lead-containing materials.
    d. Pregnancy and Health Advisory: Individuals who are pregnant, nursing, or who may become pregnant are strongly advised not to participate in classes involving exposure to lead, soldering fumes, or similar materials. Participants with respiratory, skin, or chemical sensitivities must consult a medical professional prior to participation.
    e. Ventilation and Equipment Use: Participants shall comply with all instructions regarding use of soldering irons, grinders, fume extractors, and other studio equipment. Failure to follow instructor directions may result in immediate dismissal without refund.
    f. Minors: No person under the age of eighteen (18) may participate without a signed Parental Consent and Liability Waiver. The Company reserves the right to refuse admission to minors when, in its judgment, participation would pose an unreasonable risk.
    g. Emergency Protocols: The Studio maintains first aid supplies and emergency contacts on site. Participants must familiarize themselves with exits and evacuation routes upon arrival.

  3. Offsite Workshops
When classes are conducted at offsite locations, Participants remain subject to this Policy and all safety rules herein. Hosts must ensure adequate workspace, ventilation, and access to running water and electricity. The Company assumes no responsibility for hazards existing on third-party premises.

  4. Participant Responsibility
Each Participant is responsible for following safety rules and using reasonable care. Failure to do so constitutes a material breach of this Policy and the Terms of Service, and may result in removal from class without refund.

  5. Refund, Rescheduling, and Cancellation Policy
    a. General Rule: All purchases for workshops, classes, and studio sessions are nonrefundable, except as required by California law.
    b. Rescheduling: Participants may request to reschedule by providing written notice at least forty-eight (48) hours in advance. Approval is subject to availability and the Company’s sole discretion.
    c. No-Shows and Late Arrivals: Participants arriving more than fifteen (15) minutes late may be denied entry and deemed a no-show. No refund or credit shall be issued.
    d. Health-Related Cancellations: Participants experiencing illness or injury may request a single courtesy transfer to a later class upon submission of written notice prior to the scheduled class time.
    e. Cancellations by the Company: In the event the Company cancels a class due to unforeseen circumstances (including instructor illness, equipment failure, or force majeure), Participants will receive the option of rescheduling or full refund.
    f. Gift Cards and Vouchers: Gift cards and class credits are nonrefundable, nontransferable except by written approval, and must be redeemed within twelve (12) months of purchase.

  6. Liability Disclaimer
Participation in any class or workshop inherently involves risk of injury or property damage. The Company shall not be liable for any injury, illness, or loss arising out of or related to participation, except as required by law. Participants acknowledge that they have signed or will sign a separate Liability Waiver as a condition of participation.

  7. Studio Access and Clean-Up
Participants shall respect studio property and equipment. Workspaces must be cleaned at the end of each session. Any willful damage to equipment, tools, or premises will be charged to the responsible party.

  8. Compliance with Law
This Policy is governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of California. Any dispute arising hereunder shall be resolved pursuant to the dispute-resolution provisions contained in the Company’s Terms of Service.

  9. Acknowledgment
By registering for or attending any class or workshop, the Participant affirms that they have read, understood, and agreed to comply with this Policy in full. The Participant further acknowledges that failure to observe these terms may result in expulsion without refund and possible denial of future enrollment.

  10. Participant Conduct and Community Standards
Oko Designs is committed to maintaining a respectful, inclusive, and safe environment for all Participants, instructors, and staff. Every Participant shall conduct themselves in a civil, cooperative, and non-disruptive manner at all times while on the premises or participating in any workshop, event, or offsite activity. The following conduct is strictly prohibited: harassment, intimidation, discrimination, hate speech, belligerent or aggressive behavior, verbal abuse, or any action that interferes with the safety, comfort, or learning experience of others. Participants engaging in such conduct may, at the sole discretion of the Company or its representatives, be removed immediately from the premises without refund or credit. The Company reserves the right to refuse future service or participation to any individual whose conduct has violated this policy.

  11. Right of Refusal and Ejection
All Participants are invitees of Oko Designs and are present on the premises or at Company-sponsored activities solely at the invitation and pleasure of the Company. The Company reserves the absolute right to refuse entry to, or to remove from any class, workshop, or event, any Participant for any reason or for no reason, with or without prior notice, whenever the Company deems such action necessary or appropriate to maintain safety, decorum, or operational integrity. Such removal shall not entitle the Participant to any refund, compensation, or damages of any kind.
